How the European GDPR Will Transform the Ad Tech Landscape
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will require every business, organization, or party that collects data to be more transparent about what data they collect from EU residents and who they share it with. But while this may seem straightforward, ad tech as it currently exists is anything but. Bloated, tangled, and with little standardization, conventional tracker and tag management practices can easily result in personal data being sent to unknown parties. The reality is that compliance with the new EU data protection law will present numerous challenges to everyone wishing to reach the European market. First enacted in April of 2016, the GDPR will become fully enforceable in May 2018.
